The Current Landscape
The financial services industry has over 300,000 advisors (mostly men), yet more than half of us women don’t feel prepared to meet their financial goals. But they’re a force to be reckoned with. By 2030, American women are expected to control much of the $30 trillion in financial assets that baby boomers will possess (a wealth transfer of such magnitude that it approaches the annual GDP of the United States)! . At the other end of the wealth spectrum, there are many women who will find themselves not financially prepared for retirement (for a number of different reasons). Her Retirement aims to provide access to education and services that can help them fill their significant savings and investment gaps. How it Started
Lynn Toomey was in the financial services industry for five years as a partner in her domestic partner’s advisory practice. As she learned more about the industry and started writing, researching and teaching, she came across alarming statistics about women and retirement. She also found alarming data about financial literacy and the financial challenges women face as they enter retirement. She asked why their weren’t more services for “Her Retirement.” And then She decided to create a movement to help women know and have more. She went to Go Daddy, reserved HerRetirement.com and then started developing software to support their approach and process.
